) out there. Bush nominates Pace for JCS. It will be the first time a Marine has served in the number-one spot.
As for me, I only find it interesting due to my highly perverse fascination with bureacracy. (It should also finally put to rest the whole “Marines are just a part of the Navy!” myth. That hasn’t been true since the Second World War and I keep hearing people say it.)

It’s not true on a day-to-day basis, but the Marines are still part of the Dept of the Navy, so it is true on some levels. For that matter, Marines haven’t really been Marines in the traditional sense of the term since before the Spanish American War.
