I don’t know if any of the links posted so far have the complete statement from his family, but it can be seen here (and is worth reading).
“Son of a bitch!”
Gonna miss you, Gene.

- RIP Gene Wilder
“I know, but this is the hand I shoot with…”
That means Silver Streak will be on this week. That’s how I want to remember him.
This is a sign that Mel Brooks really needs to get off his butt and start working on that Blazing Saddles/Young Frankenstein crossover sequel before he entirely runs out of a cast.
This was a nice boy. This was a good boy. This was a mother’s angel. And I want the world to know once and for all, and without any shame, that we loved him.
Very sad news.
Wilder gets the prize for the best one-word line reading of all time:
BART: A man drink like that and don’t eat, he is going to die.
WACO: [three beats] …When?
I’m sure that is a great comfort to his widow who was married to him for the last 25 years.
There will never be another Wonka.
“Now over here, if you’ll follow me, I have something rather special to show you.”
You did, sir. You sure did.
I guess Charlie will take over now…
[four beats]
“SED-A-GIVE‽”
I’m so very sad to hear this. His comic timing coupled with superb line read ( intonation ) made him a subtle but powerful comedy force. What a gifted fellow.
And, after watching a long interview with him on Inside The Actors Studio, I have great respect for him as a gentle person. He worked not just clean but respectfully. How many comedic actors can say that or have that said of them??
Painful timing: This Thursday my Dearly Beloved™ and I are attending a once in a lifetime event: Blazing Saddles is being screened at Radio City Music Hall with a Q&A with Mel Brooks in person.
Bought tickets months ago. Now it will have tears as well as laughter. ![]()
You’re right: he deserves to be a multi-winner.
Damn. I just heard Mel Brooks extoll Mr. Wilder’s virtues a few months ago, on Gene’s birthday. We all sang him “Happy Birthday” with Mr. Brooks.
His hometown of Milwaukee is mourning his passing, as am I.
You’ll love it. I saw it in Milwaukee earlier this year, on Mr. Wilder’s birthday.
But yes, it will be poignant. Mel Brooks will make sure of that. He’s an amazing man too.
RIP Jim aka The Waco Kid.
Wilder actually had four wives altogether.
I know it’s just that I find the fixation of the general public on his windowing kind of creepy. Yes, it was sad but he was married to his last wife longer than all the others combined yet everyone thinks he was in mourning for the rest of his life.
Eta: though to be fair, almost the only time you heard of him the last couple decades was very rare appearances doing funding drives for Gilda’s Club so I guess I can’t blame people for thinking that.
