Genealogical programs apart from Ancestry.com

I tried to keep track of my huge extended family on Ancestry but became concerned that I was exposing my living relatives to phishing attempts (I,e., I was putting down information like my second cousin’s grandmother’s maiden name, which he would be unaware is out there on the interwebs)–all I need really is a neat chart of blank space for various people’s names, dates, birthplaces etc. I could do it in a word processing program, but it would be great if there were something cheap that has all that stuff set up already. Any ideas?

I made my own home-rolled one in FileMaker and made it public-domain freeware:

I have a runtime version of it (i.e., doesn’t require you to own FileMaker Pro) and a regular version (which does). Windows or Mac but the printing configurations were set up on a Mac and may not print reliably on a Windows box.

I was originally going to refine it and release it as shareware but stopped working on it. But there’s a constant slow trickle of people asking for a copy.

Brother’s Keeper ( https://www.bkwin.org/ ) is a genealogy software.

Mrs Geek uses Legacy Family Tree.
