Who was the guy who died the year his team won the Cup, his body was lost, and then they never won again…until they finally located his body? (I THINK it was the Leafs)

That would be Bill Barilko, a defensman for the Leafs. He scored in overtime in Game 5 of the 1951 Cup Final to win the Stanley Cup for Toronto. Later that summer, he and an acquaintance disappeared while on a fly-in fishing trip in Northern Ontario. Their bodies weren’t found until 1962, which was the year the Leafs won the Cup for the first time since '51.

Thanks. Hey – do you think if they found Roberto Clemente’s body, then the Pirates might make it to the World Series? Or at least stop sucking? (Yes, I know that was extremely tasteless, especially considering the kind of exemplary human being Clemente was.)
