I reported a few, and then realized the infection had spread and nuking it from orbit was the only way to be sure. Or, uh, metaphor something something…but I decided that reporting more of them was a waste of time and only going to drive the mods even crazier.
[Link basically said that mods are appointed by Ed]
Well, it sounds like the policy is “people who’s jib Ed likes the cut of”, and it seems pretty obvious that policy needs to be rethought.
Mods complaining of being overworked, hell breaking loose (at least temporarily) during the US night shift…
I know you don’t want to give out the Mod badge and gun to just anyone, but you are not telling me that there are not hundreds of members here who would do a tip top job.
I happen to suffer from insomnia, so even though I am on the east coast of the U.S. I still end up providing a lot of the night coverage.
This morning was a bit of a fluke. On most days the spammer would have been caught a lot sooner. Our late at night and in early morning coverage isn’t as bad as some folks here are making it out to be.
Most spammers also only post one or two spams. This guy had over a hundred in total. That’s pretty rare too, though it’s not the first time we’ve been hit with huge post count spammers.
I woke up way earlier than usual, so I got to see the action for a change. Despite it’s mundanity, it was kinda fun making dumb jokes and whatnot. Then again, I’m not a mod.
Did you happen to note the location of the IPs? If they were from countries where few new posters live and it keeps happening, you might consider installing the Country Moderation plug-in I recommended in this thread. Much easier than making poor Gukumatz stay up all night watching the boards.
