Anyone familiar with the concept of Generation E? I have heard it mentioned in passing, but I don’t really know the theory. I think I’m a part, however, so I want to know how I am being labelled.
Generation E comprises young voters, age 18 - 29, who have been very involved in this Presidential campaign. Historically, this age group is underrepresented at Presidential elections. I think the e stands for empowered.
Howard Dean’s campaign manager Joe Trippi discusses the theory of Generation E in this article. At the time, it seemed like it might be true.
It’s not very often that someone’s observations about a broad sociological change in a group of people born during a certain period of time are put to rest so cleanly and quickly…
I also found some websites that referred to ‘Generation E’ as a group characterized by caring about the environment. It would also be possible to use the label for people who grew up during the dot-com boom. I’ve also seen it used to describe people influenced by the rave culture, particularly during the late 80s and early 90s when it was pervasive in the UK. (TV chef Jamie Oliver is the best example I can think of for a well-known person who might fit in this category.)
