I’ve noticed that there’s not really a name describing the age group of people who are just now graduating from college. We’re too young to be Gen X, we’re not young enough to be Generation Y, so what are we? Any ideas?
Demographically speaking, Gen X are supposed to be the children of the Baby Boomers, born roughly 1964-1980, Gen Y are supposed to be the children of Gen X, born after roughly 1980. There’s some overlap in there, which makes you either an old Gen X or a young Gen Y.
It’s not when you were born, it’s your frame of mind!
Do you prefer Nirvana or say, Len?
Did you like Voltron as a kid or do you not rememeber it well enough?
Electric company? Pogo Balls? My Little Pony? Thundercats? Cabbage Patch Kids?
I know I am going back here, but my awareness of pop culture in the late 90’s is embarassingly low.
These icons are childhood memeories of X-ers, Gen Y would more likely reflect upon…uh… Polly Pocket or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles I guess.
From my understanding, Gen X is the generation of people who were born to pre-boomers. It’s supposed to be the smallest generation. Gen Y is the children of the boomers, and seems to be kids born in the '80s.
I guess 20-25 is very young Gen X, but my boyfriend is definitely older Gen X and has very different childhood memories.
It’s kind of annoying being in-betweeny!
Gee, I didn’t know we were past Gen X yet.
Turpentine, I wasn’t particularly attached to any of the list you gave, so I guess I’m not Gen X. Don’t qualify on Gen Y either. What does that make me?
Daisy,
The 20-25 group is definitely Late Gen-X, we’re born to baby-boomers. The early Gen-X’ers(I’ll give you a hint, they wear their hair in mullets, drive late model musclecars and still see the Scorps in concert :D), are 26-35.
How about *Generation http://www./i]?
That was supposed to be W W W. Clever program thought I was trying to write a URL…
No, no, no, Turpentine… You did accurately describe our generation (I’m 23, my sister is 25 with the same memories), but we are NOT Generation X. GenX is the whiner generation… Ever see Rent? If not, don’t, I’d hate to have that on my consciense, but THAT’s what Generation X is-- a bunch of whiney, immature kids who think that the world owes them a living.
There’s a bunch of e-mail lists of our typical memories, but we still don’t have a name. I think that Generation Y is the name that folks not of this generation try to call us, but it doesn’t fit.
