Genetic testing for ancestry--company recommendations?

I have a little money set aside for genetic testing for ancestry. I’ve found two sites that look okay:

Genetic Geneology

The Genographic Project

Maternal line testing costs are pretty similar. Each offers similar data return and slightly different ancillary information.

I’m interested in your evaluation of these companies’ offerings, other companies offering similar services, or your own experiences with this kind of genetic testing. I’m already past the “why would you want to?” part of this and would just as soon not derail discussion about what each company offers.

Thanks.

Bump? I can’t believe that nobody here has done this or looked into it!

One of my former coworkers did it through the second one you linked to. He was pleased with the information he gained from it - he’s pretty into genealogy and this let him trace his roots down to either a specific village or a specific region somewhere in Europe.
That’s all I can tell you as I haven’t done it myself, though I’d be interested in hearing about others experiences.

I can only go back to my great-grandparents at most, so the idea of getting a much broader (albeit less personal) look at our history is appealing.
