What is the issue surrounding the labeling of GMO’s and is it ethically right?
The issue is that some people think GM food should be labled, to inform the consumers. Others think it isn’t neccessary. As for the ethics of it, that sounds like a Great Debate.
For a factual answer, people who favor labeling GMOs, like DreadCthulhu said, want to know whether what they’re buying has been gene-spliced. Those who are against it say that a label implies that there is a health issue, and that there are many aspects of a product’s source that someone may want to know, but we don’t require informational labels telling you what the pH of the soil is, or whether it was picked with union labor.
Beyond this kind of an explanation, this belongs in GD.
There is also the question of how much can truly be labeled GMO free, especially now in America, where the use of GM corn has been going on for a while and cross-breeding has resulted (sorry, no cites off the top of my head, other than Iowa farmers.)
