Back in college I took an anthroplogic linguistics course that was very interersting. In one section of the course we discussed on language can vary over geography, even on the basis of single word selection or pronunciation.
During this part of the class we made frequent use of maps which showed the pronunciation or word selection in each region. Some of these were very specific, covering even single counties.

What are these maps called? I remember they had a name, but can’t remember what it was.

Does anybody know of any examples of these on the Web? I’m sure I can find some once I have the name, though.
Thanks.
