George and Barbara Bush married for 70 years.

Former President George H. W. Bush and his wife Barbara celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary yesterday, Jan. 6. That’s impressive.

SEVENTY years!! That is amazing.

Congrats to them, maybe they’ll see 80?

That’s a helluva long ceremony! I thought the Catholic ones were long!

I’d love to see that, but from what I’ve heard I don’t think George Sr. has too many more years left in him.

The part about twu wuv took forever.

But if he makes it to February 4 (next moth), he will have become the third oldest former US president in history, passing John Adams. Only Ford and Reagan would have lived longer.

And Jimmy Carter is only three months younger than Bush, and looks to be in somewhat better shape.

Nice couple. I forget, do they have any kids?

None that amounted to anything.
My parents made it to 75. Dad died in October, so the run is over. I think it’s really a generational thing. Folks from that generation just didn’t get divorced.

Not necessarily. The divorce rate “back then” was a lot higher than people generally think it is.

Plus, if you think about it, very few people live long enough to be married that long in the first place.

Their granddaughter mentioned on TV today that each was the first person the other had kissed. That’s sweet.

Like Homer and Marge…

What were they kissing before they switched to people?

Well done!

I wonder if they like each other? LOL

I’m just a poster here, people. I’ve only looked at the Bush family through newspaper reports, headlines, and some fairly well documented stories… but… just Googling them?

I’ve seen shit that’ll turn you White!

Their granddaughter didn’t say, and the other person was too polite to ask.

Given H.W.'s notoriety in the mistress department, this doesn’t impress me.

Being faithfully married for 70 years is something of an achievement.

Without buying into the actual question, that’s a different meaning for the word “notoriety” than I’m used to.

My wife and I will celebrate 35 years at the end of this month. Hopefully we’ll see 70 as well. Half way there!
