Maybe Reagan really did die. Did he actually do anything after the attempt? Or was he just a cardboard cutout that was trotted whenever we needed a figurehead. So maybe the curse has not been broken!
Besides the death of Zachary Taylor (elected 1848, died 1850), no other president who wasn’t elected in a zero year ever died in office.
For what it’s worth, President Ford, who was never elected, was shot at twice, but was never hit, as far as I know.
If Bush and Cheney kick off before 2004, who steps in? The senator pro tem, right? Man, if they have to die, I sure hope they do it after Strom Thurmond retires…

After Cheney, the next in line is Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, then Strom, then Colin Powell.
That’s assuming that President Cheney doesn’t get himself a new VP.

Thurmond isn’t President pro tem of the Senate anymore. When the Democrats took over the senate, they put in a new one… Byrd, I think? He would be fourth in line.

Byrd would be third in line. If he kicks off, then it’d be Daniel Inouye and if Inouye buys the farm it’d be…Ted Kennedy. But I doubt Hastert, Bush and Cheney would all die in the next few years. Bush is in impeccable health, and the left isn’t organized enough to assassinate him. Denny looks a bit more overweight and was in the hospital earlier this year for a kidney problem. Cheney, as we all know, is a heart attack waiting to happen. Byrd’s in pretty good health for an 83-year-old, and if he does die a Democrat (the governor of WV is a Democrat would replace him). Also, elfkin, it’s presidents elected in 0 years. Allegedly the whole thing started after William Henry Harrison beat Indian general Tecumseh. Tecumseh then said that every president elected in a 0 year would die in office. As for the whole Reagan thing, does anyone believe he was REALLY in charge? I bet Nancy was running the whole show. Anyway Tecumseh’s curse probably couldn’t figure out the brains behind the operation. Now that it’s obvious who’s running the current administration (Cheney) he’ll be the one that dies.
