George Wendt dead at 76 {Norm!}

Being somewhat too young for Cheers, and with parents that never watched it, my exposure to the name George Wendt was from an episode of Animaniacs. Where he was mentioned several times in a way that was meaningless to me.

“They get constantly interrupted and pestered by two pesky survey ladies from the Midwest, one blonde and the other a redhead, who ask them such dumb questions as “Do you eat beans?”, “Do you want to see a new movie starring George Wendt?” and “Do you eat beans with George Wendt?”.”

Followed by all the regular cast giving Norm odd looks, and him replying “I have a life, you know.”

It’s a great one. So was Arrested Deveopment, MASH, Scrubs.

I love the cast of MASH the most, though. Especially seasons 6-11.

Arrested Development is so zany, it’s incredible how different every character is and how they add to the comedy. So many potential Emmy winners on that show.

I remember an episode where Norm’s secretary (I think that’s who she was) developed a crush on him, and began stalking him. He complained about it to Sam.

“I come to the bar, she’s here. I go up to feed the meter, she’s there. I come back to the bar, she’s here again. Somehow, she’s figured out my whole routine!”

“Do you want to see George Wendt in a bean-eating movie?”

I’m kind of disappointed that the thread title isn’t “George Went.”

He was a good George, as Georges go.

And as Georges go, he Wendt.

He died on the anniversary of the airing of the final Cheers episode on May 20, 1993; 32 years later to the day.

He was in a great episode of The Larry Sanders Show (“Hank’s Night in the Sun”, where Hank gets to guest host).

Didn’t the same thing happen when he went into the Hungry Heifer?

And at Gary’s Old Time Tavern, IIRC.
