Voting should be considered a way to participate in the sovereign community that guides the welfare of the nation. A felon shows not just indifference to the welfare of the nation but his outright hostility to it.

You have a different view of voting, relating more to a body temperature being the only quality necessary. Why should I care, then, what you can see or not see?

Nonetheless, the system of government we have relies on the will of the people, as expressed through their elected representatives. That’s how we do government since 1789. The attempt to “manipulate,” voters is otherwise described as advocating for voters to vote for your party. The complaint that voters are too stupid to make the correct choices – known also as “the choices you prefer,” – is not an argument for democracy. It’s an argument that you should get to be in charge, and not the stupid voters.

Which was surprising, because in general, you seem quite keen on preventing “the wrong sort” of people from voting. Felons, here - and in voting ID threads, you’ve frequently expressed the idea that if someone is too stupid or lazy to secure a government ID, then you’re absolutely okay with preventing them from voting. But if someone suggests (as in the linked thread) that Republican idiots will vote in bad law - with zero mention of disenfranchising them, mind - they get a lecture about how important it is for everyone to be able to vote.

I find that interesting.
