Actually, that was a Jimmy Fallon riff on the latest anti-evolution efforts in Georgia schools:
Does this ever happen in Blue States?

Jesus horses?! WTF?! This is so way out hilarious. Damn this is some funny shit. Best joke all month. If true, even better.
Actually, that link gives me a glimmer of hope. It seems like a good number of Georgia residents and teachers are appalled at this line of thinking. Good on them.
Funny how none of those horses jump the Iridium layer at the Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary in the fossil record all over the world.
Oh sorry, did I just post an undeniable FACT?
Died in the Flood.
ahem
It’s strange. I went to Catholic school in Mississippi and there weren’t any Jesus horses. Evolution was called the theory of evolution 'cause that’s what it is, but we never even touched Creationism, and you’d think you would in Catholic school?
Then again, I only went for a year.
Is it possible for me to get a job teaching evolution to Sunday School students?
As a recoving Catholic, I can state that the Vatican has no problem with Evolutionary theory, so long as it does not try to tackle the ‘first cause’ of everything…evolution is simply the mechanism by which God creates.
In my experience, Catholic institutions of learning at all levels are excellent in teaching the scientific method, logic, and critical thinking…and i imagine that’s why there are so many ex-Catholics out there. shrug
That was in fact my experience as well – I went to a tiny, very poor Catholic school in a mostly Baptist area, and they were in demeanor a LOT more liberal than their Baptist counterparts. Apart from a few experiences, they were some of the warmest and most loving people I’ve run across, running a close second to the pagans I spent my time with in Virginia. I ran into none of the Catholic school stereotypes – the nuns were hard on us and there was corporal punishment, but not only were they always fair, even the students knew they were fair. There were exceptions, but the one exception got fired (a fact which I am sorely proud of, as it’s my ‘fault’ and my mother’s he got canned).
End of hijack, possibly; back to your regularly scheduled pitting.
Are we ever going to be able to stop being embarrassed by the Neanderthal right? Do we always have to keep repeating the Scopes trial, almost a century later and it still isn’t over?
It happened here in Minnesota (and we didn’t even give electoral votes to Reagan in '84). I am proud to say that the insurance co. I work for is the one that defended the school district in this lawsuit.
Yeah I’ve found that if you go through the Catholic system (grade school, high school, even into college) then you either turn into a priest of unshakeable faith or land in the agnostic/atheist continuum. From personal experience, most of my high school classmates have broken from the Church.
Dangerous thing about classical education and critical thinking… it just doesn’t know where to stop.
And the Christian right wonders why we have so much trouble acting respectful toward their ideas. We have trouble because their ideas are so much horseshit – JESUS HORSE SHIT!
Holy shit!
As a geologist who’s looked at thousands of fossils with hundreds of folks over the years, I am sad near to the point of tears that the term “Jesus Horses” was never available to me before this day. How utterly perfect it is.
I accept evolution as both a theory and a fact.
I have no problem treating those who believe otherwise respectfully, even though I disagree with them.
I wonder why I can do that but you can’t?
The party of Tolerance, Diversity, and Acceptance takes yet another PR ding, I guess, while the Party of Evilness and Bigotry wins again, huh?
Check the masthead, Bricker - this board is about fighting ignorance.
Ahhh…another beautiful Friday morning and I awaken to see what the bozos in my fair state are up to now. Let’s see…
Oh…there’s a recall on textbooks because they don’t specifically say that marriage is between a man and a woman…uh huh
Our past school superintendent has been indicted on diverting educational funds, with about 10K of it going for her face lift
And for Og’s sake let’s not leave out evolution theory…again
Jesuuus Horses! For what it’s worth petitions to nip this in the but have circulated through all the university system, etc…we’re trying!!!
It’s damn hard to be blue in a red state.
It’s been a long time since the Catholic Church got worked up about evolution, or scientific discoveries in general (some applications of scientific discoveries get them a bit bent out of shape, but that’s a different story altogether).
Not really. As I have mentioned in other threads, between Father Mendel, the geneticist, and Father de Chardin, the paleontologist, the Catholic Church has been pretty accepting of evolution all along.
