German speaking Dopers: Januar oder Jaenner?

I was surfing a German website today, and noticed a January date given as “Jaenner”. I studied German for a long time, and lived in the country for a year, but I never saw that word. While in Germany, I didn’t spend much time with small children, but “Jaenner” is how I would imagine tots pronounce Januar, because it’s easier to pronounce.

Is it a colloquialism, or a regionalism that is taking hold? FWIW, I saw it in Karstadt’s web page.

Jaenner is what they say in Oesterreich.

Both are correct. “Im Jänner” (or Jaenner) is simply “in January” in the Austrian dialect. A German would say “im Januar.”
