Yesterday as I was planning lessons at my desk, I suddenly noticed a flea bouncing around on my desk… I grabbed my nearest weapon (a pen) and killed the little bugger - managing to get blood on the desk… I figured, “wow, how weird, a flea”, and went back to planning my lessons ( I’m a high school teacher) …
Within a few minutes there were a couple more jumping on me, off me, and onto my desk… I smashed em down, and that seemed to be the end of it… The kids came in, and I forgot about everything… None of the kids said anything, and the day passed uneventfully…
Today, as I arrive at school, and just before my first class, it happens again… fleas jumping on me, off me, on the desk… Ever the optimist, I thought the day would go fine… WRONG…
The minute the kids showed up for my first class, a couple of em started complaining that there were bugs on them… (Before I had even mentioned it…) Then I noticed them on my desk, and even had one crawling around inside a clear pen I had left on my desk… I found one on my neck, some on my socks, and a couple on my arms within seconds. Yechhh…
Needless to say, my classes were (sort of) held outside the rest of the day… There were no rooms free, so I ended up wasting a complete day sitting at tables scattered around an open area… Thirty-five high-school kids in an open area filled with other teenagers wandering does NOT make for a useful day…
They’re supposed to be flea-bombing my class tonight… Suddenly chemicals are my best friend!
But I’m still dreading tomorrow…
