Am I the only one who’s noticed a lot of (conveniently) “new” posters going on with his own “rules”, “regulations”, and “ideas” about how the message board should be run. What really tickled my fancy was this little gem over in IMHO, the thread Do you know any posters with 2 current legal usernames?:
Well, I read that, and I immediately thought, “Well, it ISN’T your message board, is it?” Amused with that, I also thought, “Why don’t you get your own message board?”
The huge, recent influx of trolls seem to rave and rant against noted members such as Coldfire and Wally (whom among everyone else seem to be rather respected). Since all these trolls seem to have brains made of fecal matter, I think I’d lay it out straight for them…
If you don’t like it here, go away. Start up your OWN message board, where YOU control everything YOUR way, and see how many people join. Oh, hell, you can have a party there with all your sock puppets!
The problem SPOOFE is that they do like this board . They love it in fact . They are having a ball acting the bollocks all over the board . Thats why their not even trying anymore to hide .
I really think that the only thing to do now is send these guys to coventry . DNFTT should be the order of the day IMHO and I’m starting right now .
Oh and by the way I used plurals but all this might be all just 1 loser . I don’t know enough details to be sure .
That’s a great idea! Let’s let them get their own message board and then we can go troll over there! Let’s see. I think I’ll register as neuro-trash grrrl, then when I get banned, I’ll be Neuro Trash Girl, then NTG, then Neurotrash Grrrl, then maybe just for some variety I’ll be parrot, then Bob of Friend, then maybe X-Flies…
That’s the problem, really. If you don’t spend night and day here you don’t really know an irate poster from a troll. For the most part. In case you missed it I think PunditLisa the most virulent of trolls. Oh, yes! She is really evil. You just don’t know it yet.
But, hell, I have to say I love no sport like the bashing of a troll. There is something to be said to see them splattered, verbally, against the walls with a quick, cutting post.
It is great sport and I would hate to see that denied to some of the legendary troll bashers among us. I wish I could post myself in their ranks but no, I am only the sex obsessed poster… alas. This is why I bash out against PunditLisa. She can be my Champion Troll Basher anytime!
PL’s right; the best attention to give to trolls is none whatsoever.
Now, I may come off as a bit of a hypocrite for saying such, given my recent bashing of WebMasterUSA; however, I maintain that there is a serious difference between trolls and idiots, and between trolls and assholes.
One may be an asshole but not be a troll; an asshole is a jerk just by general nature- a troll is a jerk by specific nature. Assholes continue to be assholes, but warning them of how their behavior is making them look may actually get them to change their tune. Trolls try hard to achieve asshole status, and telling them what they’re doing wrong only encourages them to keep pushing in that direction.
So idiots and assholes I will continue to beat over the head with a 2x4. WebMasterUSA seemed to be such- he was being whiny and pissy in one thread, for which I smacked him, then I smacked him again for accusing me of not reading his messages when he couldn’t even be bothered to remember what he had written. I did not see him as a troll out to rile people up; I saw him as a pathetic, whiny child who needed a little ass-kicking in order to realize that the universe does not, in fact, revolve around him.
By that same token, I have avoided speaking in the “Goodbye” thread of Zarathrustas after Z claimed to be Coldfire’s sock puppet. That is someone specifically looking to get a rise out of people, and Homey don’t play that.
Well, John, when you start differentiating 'tween “asshole/jerk” and “troll”, that’s really more of a matter of semantics.
And for the recent rash of Imposter Trolls (which I call “Ogres”), it’s been very necessary to let all the other posters, who may not be familiar with the situation, know what’s going on. And then there’re newbies who may overstep their bounds, or the prospect of missed jokes, etc.
And to get back to my OP… I’m not concerned with trolls at all. Just the jerks/assholes who have no respect for the message board or the moderators. True, most of these people eventually get trollish, and maybe even banned, but there’re a lot of definitely non-troll posters who are just plain dicks, and I say again to them all… if you don’t like this message board… get your own!
Okay, but what if you are just having fun in the pit at someone’s expense? You know, a new poster that doesn’t seem to be on the best ground and you are basically fucking with them to test their mettle?
They aren’t a troll per say but you just figure if they are in the pit they should know that the flames can burn. Everyone, newbie or old timer, is subject to being fucked with. I guess, if they don’t like it, they can go to other forums or do as you suggest and find their own message board.
The pit, by it’s very nature, gets mean and up in your face. If you don’t like it then…
GO TO MPSIMS and leave the beatings to the rest of us who enjoy this shit!
And to anyone bitching about the SDMB or how it’s handled or administered to… get real. Don’t like it? Don’t let the electronic door hit you in the ass on your way out.
