Getting it on with Progressive Rock

I have no idea what you are saying here. I do not speak or understand smug hipster.

Your thread title, however, makes sense. Ok, how about Protomartyr? People might disagree, but I like them.

Definitely not. Nor to making himself unwelcome on them.

Wallace The Lad Wile I’m going to assume that you are not directing the phrase “contentious prick” to Qadgop The Mercotan, many of your posts are running right up to the line of being rude and insulting posters. Dial it back or will start to rack up warnings.

Wallace’s real lurv is PROTO PROG

Anyone here for the proto?

I love this chap called Johann Sebastian Bach. Wicked complex keyboard stuff, from before some of the more famous proggers were even born. I can only find cover versions of his stuff though.

Couldn’t agree more, but I think he hit his best years with Skid Row.

I think you misread the tag line: it says “Fighting ignorance since 1973”, not in 1973.

I dunno, throwing a disk at a stack of disks has a charm I think would rapidly wear thin, no?

Excellent year for the prog.

Yessir!

True, 1973 was probably among the best years for Prog Rock.

That year saw The Six Wives of Henry VIII by Wakeman. Dark Side of the Moon by Floyd of course, Tales from the Topographic Ocean & better yet Yessongs was released by Yes . Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield, Genesis release Genesis live, ELP had Brain Salad Surgery.

Renaissance had Ashes Are Burning.

I’d post in this thread, but I’m stuck in a Floyd Hole.

Renaissance keysman recently passed away.

I just noticed: someone on this forum has the name of a German prog band.
I doubt he even realizes it.

Or maybe he/she does. This may come as a shock to you, but there are other people out there who are knowledgeable about prog.

I’d rather eat glass.

Curiously, 1973 was also the only year in his first 18 years (starting 1969) of recording that Peter Hammill didn’t release an album of some sort!
(And he’s only missed 4 other years since!)

The closest to prog for me generally are Rush, Dream Theater, Coheed and Cambria, Porcupine Tree, Mars Volta and Steve Miller. The problem is that the term “progressive rock” is very vague and includes different bands for different people. In general, I think complex timing and having keys tends to put you close.

Wow GE Man! So heavy! (sarcasm)

That is like observing the sky has elements of blue.
Prog band cds are being put out now at rate equivalent or surpassing that of the (lp) heydays.

It is healthy and correct to brag to strangers about your prog interest/hobby/and especially ,the size of your collection.

When a stranger asks you casually: “Oh yes, but what is your occupation?”
You can say “Assistant at the main Public Toilet”.
Said person may step back a pace or two on hearing this. He might even flash a smug / condescending look.
Now is the time to hit him with the line.
“Oh yeah, I have a formidable progressive rock record collection. What do YOU do?”

Cool story, bro.

Its no story.
If Wallace decides to post a story here, you will know it.

Bilbo Baggins and Doctor Watson both share something. Anyone?
Do they collect prog? Well, I cannot say for sure but, wot the 'eck, maybe they do!
