Getting on with our lives on Nov. 3

(slight hijack)
Hey, the world’s been scheduled to end ever since the dawn of civilization. (One almost wishes the Elder Ones, the Fifth Sun, the Apocalypse, the whatever, would stop teasing us and get on with it already.) :stuck_out_tongue:
(/slight hijack)

I’m not worried. We live in a nation that used to have full-contact fist fights in Congress and lined up in rows and shot at each other over petty personal interests. 50 years from now, if any of us are still around, we’ll look back at this and laugh.

“The election of 2004? What a hoot, eh? I can’t believe we got so worked up for a lot of nothing.”

(Of course, according to the Kerry people, if Bush wins I might find myself in an internment camp, so I’ll keep y’all posted.)

Well, I voted last Tuesday, so I’ve got at least a week’s head start on all y’all in getting on with my so-called life. Eat my dust, suckers.

Now, re: Loopydude’s festival of vagueness:

Sorry, man but I haven’t a clue what WTF you are talking about. Are you calling for more hard-hitting Letters to the Editor, street protests, armed insurrection, genocide or what?

I’m not “calling for” anything, and as for whatever actions could or should be taken, they probably would be related to specific outcomes.

I would expect some good measures would be disruptive acts of passive resistance, non-violent civil disobedience, the aforementioned letters to the editor, donation of money to Bush-opposing groups, as well as international groups that work hard to expose American wrongdoing abroad, so as to erode international support for any and all Bush propositions. Boycotting businesses known to endorse Republican candidates, distributions of lists of public figures who have spoken in support of the War in Iraq, so they can be targets for protest-letter mailings, as well as orderly and legal protests at their homes or places of business, so as to draw public attention to them. Those are a few things I can throw out off the top of my head. Could you not think of some of these things on your own? They’re pretty common practice in the tradition of American protest.

Sure I could, but you were the one ranting about “gloves coming off” and suchlike, and I wanted to hear what, specifically, you were referring to. Now you have been more specific. Thanks for replying.

In my experience, it is common practice amongst persons who advocate political violence to state their positions in vague terms when speaking in public, hence my question.

As for answers to the OP’s basic questions, Garrison Keillor suggests taking in the simple pleasures of life.
