I have a friend who went caaving a few days ago and apparently the cave was pretty nasty with several dead animals in it. I don’t believe he touched any of them, but now he is getting pretty sick. Is this just a coincidence that he got sick or could it be something really serious? His chest sounds pretty bad, but he refuses to go to the doctor about it. Any ideas?
Your friend is a fool and may be a dead fool if he doesn’t get some medical attention. It’s very possible he breathed bacteria laden dust or mold. He didn’t touch the animals but did breathe the air.
Agreed! Your friend is a fool if he won’t go to the doc. Off the top of my head, if his chest sounds bad, then he’s playing with something that could be viral…very scary. Why don’t you drag him to the doc?
I agree that a doctor is your best bet. I don’t know where you are, but around here, dead animals, especially rodents, can transmit hantavirus and bubonic plague. While these instances are rare, they do happen, and they’re unpleasant, to say the least.
This is something I learned in CounterStrike: Never stand on or near dead bodies unless you know exactly what you are doing. Did your friend ever wonder why the animals had died?
