Oh please. If the mere sound of a word, used in a strictly neutral context, causes that much distress I suggest social injustice is not that person’s only problem. Are you expecting to have any kind of serious discussion about something without being able to bring yourself to pronounce that which you’re discussing?

Seems like you’re underestimating the trauma that racism can cause. And yes, people have managed to have serious discussions about slurs without using the slur in question. It’s not difficult at all, either, considering the fact that, in this circumstance, we have an easily understood euphemism to use in its place.
