I’m wondering if anyone knows of a way to get online in Windows XP through a Sprint PCS cellphone in some way. A friend who’s currently traveling is asking me if I know of a way for her to do this. Apparently there’s a MacOS script that can do this, but Googling the Sprint PCS website isn’t giving me anything on the PC end. Any ideas?
You’ll need a USB data cable for your phone first. They usually run about $20 and are available at Radio Shack or similar stores. Then you need to download the drivers for the phone which can be found here. Plug in the devise and XP should find the drivers (though sometimes you have to tell it to look at the folder) and install your phone as a modem.
Now the cool part. You’ll need to set up a new dial-up connection in XP. When it asks for the phone number, use #777 to dial out. You’ll need to use your username and password that you have assigned already to your vision account. The vision account is necessary. If you have a phone that allows you to surf the web and download pics and junk, then you are set. Then all you have to do is dial the connection. Once it connects, open a browser (like Firefox or IE) and surf away. You’ll get a much faster connection than a 56k modem, but it won’t be blazing fast. If you have any other questions, just post back.
Thanks. I don’t think my friend has a Vision account, but I left her a message basically summarizing your post. I’ll repost here if there are any more questions.
She’ll still be able to connect without a Vision account, she’ll just be charged for it. A lot. Glad I could help though.
