Ghost Town

OK, I really didn’t think that Ricky could pull off a romantic lead, but he did. I’m not saying there was anything original or new - there wasn’t. But it was a fun little romcom and I confess that I’m a sucker for romcoms.

Also, I want to be in a world where Ricky can hook up with Tea - it gives me hope.

I thought it was a terrible film, trite and clichéed, obviously filled out from some sort of romantic comedy template. But somehow – somehow – Gervais was able to bypass the rest of the film and be stunningly hilarious. This all came together into a weird, uncomfortable mixture of good and stupid that’s hard for me either to recommend or to ignore.

Well, that came out harsher than I intended.

I’m not a Ricky Gervais fan (more out of not watching any of his shows rather than a conscious decision), but I really enjoyed this film. I laughed a lot and walked out of the theatre smiling. Nuff said.
