I like my women like I like my Christmas trees…
Us: yup, it’s been vertically erect at home since the Friday after Thanksgiving. On that day every year we drive up into the (Santa Cruz) Mountains to a particular tree farm that our family has been going to for over 30 years. We chop down a tree and it goes up that very day.
This year was (is) that tree farm’s 100th year of operation.
Mine will be going up today. I had hoped my nephew & niece would come and help but they’ve been too busy.
Ours is up! It’s 7 feet tall and fake as a politician’s handshake. I have to admit, though, it does look pretty real - it’s the kind that you assemble from tons of individual “branches”. It has those big colored lights on it, ornaments, and is topped with a big lady/angel/whatever in a red poofy dress.
I had one of those for something like 15 years, thanks to my ex. I came to hate the damn thing, as over all those years it accumulated grease and dust, and the color coding on the “branches” wore off so that it was difficult to assemble. My ex wouldn’t let me chuck it. As far as I know, she still has the disgusting thing. My nephew and his spouse have a nine foot tall white tree that accommodates hundreds of ornaments and lights, and is on a rotating base. It’s. . .imposing.
I too was expecting some kind of thread dealing with kinky topiary.
Have you seen what people do with those lawn reindeer, the ones made of white wire and lights? I’ve seen pictures where they have been bent into some “Unusual postures.”
If I do go ahead and put mine up, it will be around five feet of glorious fake tree, with white lights already strung on it. I have ordered a new tree skirt which may not get here on time but the tree will be up till at least Epiphany – plenty of time to enjoy it.
It’s a wonderful arpillera one which will coordinate with the arpillera stockings we have.
I did a big cleanout last year so the ornaments that are left just fit the tree and all are handmade (many from our quilt guild ornament swap) or have sentimental value.
