You would love my ex-sister-in-law (we still call each other)…she had all of her Christmas decorations finished November 1st, and to top it off, she has finished her Christmas shopping and has wrapped most of her gifts…granted, she is a bit abnormal, but believe it or not, this is the weekend many people in the US put up their decorations.
Coming home from the supermarket this evening, I counted over twenty homes that already had their outdoor decorations finished…give me another week to get to that.
We get a real tree so it will be a couple weeks yet. We do have the lights up since we live in Ohio and when you get a break in the weather the best bet is to get the outside ones up. They are not plugged in yet though.
We have brought all the Christmas stuff up from the basement and have them stored in the sun porch so I am sure sometime in the next two weeks I will start bringing things out and decorating.
I did crochet a green and red toilet paper cosey the other day out of boredom and I already have that displayed in the bathroom.
We will probably put ours up in a week or so… its usually the first week of December. We don’t have a great location for it though this year, so thats a problem.
My mom on the other hand called my wife to see if she wanted to help with hers on Friday. My wife, the Christmas Freak couldn’t get there fast enough.
Heck no. Following ancient family tradition that dates back at least to the early 1970s, the tree and other decorations will go up on the third Sunday of Advent - fairly late this year, on December 16th.
For the third (or fourth?) year in a row, we will be treeless. We’re not even going to be here on Christmas, no one will be coming over, and our house is mostly shielded from the road, so outdoor decorations would only be seen by the folks to our right. Heck, since our daughter is about to graduate college, the kid-fun of the holidays is pretty much gone. Maybe if we have grandkids, we may decorate again. Maybe. Maybe not.
I postpone putting my parents’ tree and decorations up for as long as I may. Usually I’ll have them up before my father’s birthday (Dec 21) but I won’t promise even that. It’s something that I do for my mother, who cares a lot about it, and decorating for the seasons in general. For myself - I dervive no pleasure from putting up the display, so really see no point to doing it.
I don’t begrudge anyone else their own pleasures. And I can appreciate a well-done household display. It’s just not my thing.
As for ours - hell, no. We’re having a party, but before that I have to paint my living and dining rooms, and move the toddler’s toys out of the tree corner up to his bedroom, and bake, and my carpets will be cleaned this week too, plus there’s that whole job thing… I’ll probably decorate next weekend or the following week.
another no. Only because I don’t do christmas trees. No, I’m not a humbug (altough I do think most people go a bit OTT around xmas, but anyway).
I think it’s because I was raised in an a-religious environment, and my parents never bothered with a tree. I don’t find them beautiful either. I prefer a tree the way it’s supposed to look, unadorned by xmas lights!
My thoughts exactly. I dread the holidays as it has historically not been a very cheerful time of the year for me. (What’s that? Why yes, I do work in retail!) Since I’m single, no children, and no family demands for holiday celebrations, I can ignore the entire season as long as I’m in my own home. Oops, wait – I have a small crystal snowman that was given to me by a good friend a couple years ago. Last year I brought it out and placed it on the mantle before Christmas and I haven’t put it away yet. I guess that means I’m all decked out for 2007!
I haven’t done it yet. Maybe next weekend, though.
I have a sad little pre-lit 12" Charlie Brown tree that I prop up in the window, and then I have this glass box table in my entry way that I decorate by season, so I’ll put my “winter scene” up too.
I’m also thinking this year of using green Command Strips to string some lights on my wall in a Christmas tree shape, on which I’ll hang some of the large ornaments I’ve collected over the past couple years that people have given me. No one seems to think that I might not have a proper tree to hang them on.
Being single and considering mom’s house “Christmas Central,” I don’t have any real reason to decorate beyond that.
Yup - tree was up by Friday night. I to took a badly lit picture of my tree in my new house that I have not uploaded yet
I may be single, childless and 6000 miles away from my family but dammit I like Christmas and I have not been able to have a tree the last couple of years in my small apartment and frankly it was depressing.
I got the lights out of the garage; have yet to put any up. The tree is in the garage but is prelit and very quickly assembled.
I plan to decorate this coming weekend and then leave everything up through the first week or two of January.
I was supposed to put up the lights it today, but just discovered my brother in law hasn’t returned my ladder. We tend to wait until at least the 10th to put up a tree. We like real ones but are kind of paranoid about fires. So I guess next year me and the oldest Stufette will put up ours then drive across town and put up my Mom’s.
I tend to think that decorations should wait until at least the first week of Advent. That said, if the Patriots-Eagles game winds up being the major blowout I’m expecting, I might put up my little artificial tree tonight just to kill time.
Yep, did it yesterday. It’s a small pre-lit tree that sits on the buffet in the dining room. It’s in a window that faces my neighbors – they can see it from their dining room. And they put lights on their deck so I can look at theirs!
It’s not for Christmas as much as it’s something to brighten up the dark, cold days of December.
