Weekend After Thanksgiving: Is Your Christmas Tree Up?

And… done.

Wasn’t really hard. It’s a fiber optic tree so it’s just a matter of pulling it out of the box, shaping the branches, and putting it in the stand.

But since my last post, I also cleaned my apartment, went shopping, got a haircut, and did my laundry.

Traditionally, my wife has me taking down Thanksgiving crap and at the same time putting up Christmass crap, all on the friday after Thanksgiving. So yes, our tree is up. It is a real tree. We keep it watered and have never had a problem. I grumble but secretly I like how my wife decorates the house. Well technically, I like how she instructs me to decorate it. Lord knows it would never occur to her to get on a ladder or lift something.

No way. It’s way too early.

Yeah. My sister was here for the weekend and she and her kids put it up last night.

I don’t even bother with a tree when I live alone, though.

Yes. I’d like to wait until Advent I as well, but I also know this was the perfect lazy weekend to do it. LOL, it isn’t the work in putting up the tree, it is the work involved with moving around all the furniture.

My “tree” is up and I’m all decorated. Of course, it only takes half an hour for a small apartment.

My tree is an eight inch one with beaded garland and ornaments that stay on it in storage. The biggest reason for doing it this weekend is that I usually host a gathering after my town’s Christmas parade and like for my home to look festive.

That said, any Nashville area dopers who would like to attend Lebanon’s parade next weekend are welcome to warm up with us in my home afterward. Just PM me for time and directions.

Let me guess – artificial tree?

In my family we get together (bro_mcl and I chez dr_mom_mcl), bring the tree home, and put up all the decorations on the same day – just haul the box out of the attic and do them all (tree, garlands, nativity scene, pot holders, appliquéd 12 Days of Christmas wall hanging by my late grandmother that mom hates but I insist on). Doesn’t take us more than an hour or two. This is usually only about a week or so before the 25th.

Oddly, although my mom isn’t especially religious and rarely goes to church, we have an Advent wreath every year. I guess that’s just one of the things she likes.

Nope.

In fairness, I probably won’t put a tree up this year. Single, living in an apartment, don’t own a fake tree, don’t want to fuss with a real tree by myself, not ready to pick out an appropriate fake tree to buy, . . .

And, I don’t like decorating before Advent. I’ll do it, to make other people happy, but since I’m skipping the tree, I’ll put up my Nativity Scenes and Stockings and any other stuff NEXT weekend.

I’m the guy who has been known to just wait six months rather than worry about changing the clocks for Daylight Saving Time. I can’t believe I have my tree and other decorations up already.

Not yet, but only because we opted to clean and watch football yesterday instead of get the Christmas crap up.

I’m not a big fan of covering the house up with scores of tacky theme decorations several times a year so I’m alright with that.

Yeah. We bought it yesterday, put it up, let it fall, then put the lights on last night. I’m already sick of Christmas.

No. I don’t have the money for a tree, although I have the room.

I’ll get by with a pine-scented candle.

I normally don’t put up any decorations until Advent, which starts Dec. 2 this year. But I’m going to be really busy next weekend, so I went ahead and put up our (artificial) tree yesterday, and the tree lights. I’m gonna hold off on ornaments or the rest of our decorations until next week. I tend to be a fundamentalist when it comes to the liturgical calendar so even having a mostly bare tree up right now kinda makes me uncomfortable.

Hell no. I don’t know how people can say Christmas is a special time of year when it lasts 2-3 months.

We’re getting an artificial tree, and it won’t be up for at least another couple of weeks.

Ooo, beautiful! My tree is not up (if it goes up at all)–I have a small green fake one and one made of sticks which will go up a week or so before Christmas. But I will cop to finishing wrapping and packing my parents’ gifts, so that I will stop buying them things!!

Ours were put up yesterday.

All three of them.

My mother likes Christmas decorations a lot. I think I managed to get her to not put out the basket of Santa heads, but I admit I didn’t check to be sure.

Around the third Sunday of Advent (Gaudete Sunday) is the time when we put up ours. That’s 16 December this year.

For many years I put up my happy fake tree on the friday following Thanksgiving but not this year. The livingroom is strewn with computer parts from my husband opening his shop and until they find a happy home, there’s no Christmas cheer here…

Heck no. I refuse to overlap holidays. It’s “Thanksgiving” throughout the weekend until Monday morning; then and only then do I start thinking about the dread Christmas. Thinking only, mind you - I’m terrifically unmotivated and if I bother to put up Christmas decorations at all it will probably be a few days before the 25th.
