My tree is still up. It’s fake, so I could just leave it up all year, as per family tradition*. It’s the only decoration I even bother with; I’m the stereotypical atheist who grew up in a Christian household, so for me, it’s a Childhood-Reminiscences-and-Celebration-of-Increasing-Sunlight Tree. I delayed putting it up, and was glad I finally did, but I’m officially well and truly sick of it and will be taking it down tonight. Even the cats are bored with it now.
So what about you? Any holiday decorations still up? When do you take them down?
*My dad strung colored lights around the fireplace one Christmas. They were connected to the overhead lighting, so every time you needed to see in the room, you also got the rainbow sparkles. He rigged it up in a rather intricate fashion, and so he wasn’t eager to deal with taking them down. When my birthday rolled around (in June) I had some friends sleep over. When it got dark and I turned on the lights. Everyone thought it was so cool that my dad had decorated for my birthday. If I’d been smart, I would have rolled with it, but I was embarrassed and admitted they were still there from December. After that, I begged my dad to take them down. His response was, “Well, we’re halfway to next Christmas now. If they’ve been there this long, it makes more sense to leave them up.” And so they stayed up, for a few years, I believe.
We got a very fresh tree on Dec 12, it is just now starting to show age. Maybe we’ll get to it this weekend. Winter is depressing enough, so I may not feel like taking it down for another week, though.
Damn you, [del]Skald[/del] HoD! How could you leave out, “well, I took down the tree, but it’s too friggin’ cold to get out the ladder and take down the lights on the roof.”
my decorations DOWN! day is January 5th so I can hold King Cake Party on the 6th.
I had help this year, they Are down…
but the boxes are still by the back door awaiting storage.
I give myself a week. I figure that’s more than plenty of time to finish everything up and enjoy it to the last drop. After that, I agree that it’s just a bit depressing.
I live in an apartment complex so I can not decorate outside and I don’t decorate very much inside besides the fake tree. I don’t really decorate the tree either besides lights and a few special sentimental ornaments.
I like having the tree out especially late at night watching movies or tv and I’ll turn out all the lights except for the tree lights and it gives the room a nice warm glow. I’ll take the tree down when I get tired of that nice warm late night glow.
Last year the tree stayed up until early March and so far this year I’m not tired of it yet so we’ll see.
Normally I take them down the weekend after Epiphany. This year the Celtling is enjoying them so much that I’ve left them up. Will try to sneak them down this weekend.
She’s been so cute insisting that we drive through the neighborhood to look at the lights each night, and now gets so sad to see them slowly disappearing. I’m dreading next week when I figure they’ll all be gone.
This. Everything comes down on Epiphany, then to cheer ourselves up about the house looking dull again, we celebrate Orthodox Christmas the next day with a big traditional meal and as many friends as we can gather!
Normally, everything comes down on Epiphany. Not this year. I still have my Charlie Brown christmas tree up here at work. I need to put it in the box and take it home, but I never think about it. I may do it today.
Then again, it may still be out in two weeks. I think it’s cute.
You didn’t include: it’s still up, but it’s not my job. DIL owns and stores the holiday stuff, so she picks when the stuff goes up and when it comes down. I’ll help if I’m around. I’m crossing my fingers that today is the day.
