I’ve heard the intro to “Sweet Child O’ Mine” plenty O’ times, but even that is getting a bit aged. Ugh!

My neighoburhood must be stuck in a time warp! As you can guess, I’ve been the local music hole quite a bit over the past 2 weeks and, when the kids are trying on the guitars, they play…wait for it…
Smoke On The Water!
I was leaning to the Gibson Les Paul Custon Deluxe (shade: Tobacco Road), Then, on Monday, the music guy said: Here, Try this. And plugged me in to a Gibson ES-369. It’s a black, hollow body. Quite expensive. He’s says there are not many of them on the market and I’d never heard of it. The only way I could describe the look is to say, it looks like BB King’s “Lucille”. But the sound! Oh, my friends! The sound! Has anyone heard of the Gisbon ES-369 before? I think I’ve found my guitar!!
My fate keeps getting in the way of my destiny.
Lucille is actually an ES 355 (solid body). King started out with an ES 335 (hollow body). The ES 369 was a prototype that never got introduced to the market in full swing. Very rare - nice find!
I had an ES 335 for a while, but it didn’t suit my style… made my butt look too big [wink]. Funny thing is - I traded my 335 for a Les Paul Gold top - to each his own.
I’m a bass boy, myself. I go with Wal Basses & a Fender Jazz. Also, you have to throw the strap over your shoulder, stand in front of a mirror, strike a mean pose and ask yourself:
Given the choice of a Fender Strat or anything else, I would quickly choose the Fender Strat. I mean, it really looks like an electric guitar.
“What’s right is only half of what’s wrong and
I want a short-haired girl who sometimes wears it twice as long.”

Not if it’s a bass.

This space blank, until Wally thinks up something cool to put here.
Id go with the Les Paul Custom Deluxe
i have a les paul custom and its very very nice…
how much is that other hollow body?

I’ll say it is. SOTW was the favored air guitar tune when I was in junior high. It’s so simple though, like the opening bars of La Grange that it doesn’t actually qualify as guitar playing.
Hey, Chief.
The Gibson ES-369 is a “previously enjoyed” model, (as my music guy puts it) but you wouldn’t know it to look at it. The asking price is $1300 Canadian {($50 US ;)} It’s a little more than I want to spend and I’ll admit the guitar lost it’s lustre when I was told it was used. BTW; The word “Gibson” on the head of the guitar is in script I’ve never seen before, especially with the “swoopy” capital “G” is Gibson. Kind of looks like the General Mills logo.
Still hummin’ and hawwin’ and checking this thread for insight. Thanks everybody!
My fate keeps getting in the way of my destiny.
That’s less than $900 US; I’d call that a bargain, unless there’s something wrong with it…
Now, you’ve got my attention, though. Were you going to pay less than that for a Les Paul Custom Deluxe? Man, I must be livin’ in a serious seller’s market…
On a semi-related topic can anyone tell me if Epihpone Les Pauls are different from the Gibsons apart from the headstock shape? Salesmen aren’t much help. The best I can get is “the wood’s good, but Gibson uses cheaper parts in the Epiphones.”
My advice, if you’re gonna be a real guitar player here, is to just pick one, buy it, and then start saving up for the next.
Most guitar players I know seem to have one each of every name in this thread… haha!
Each one of those guitars sounds great to me, but they are all unique. I think it’s best decided by what sound YOU like.
One guy I know loves his Fender best, but that’s because it’s 33 years old and that adds something to the sound.
I have a “Gibson style” custom made guitar (with Batman on it ), but I can’t play it. It sounds great when someone who knows does though…
(NOTE TO SELF: Buy another “learn to play guitar” book! )

Chief: I have a pic of the Bat-guitar, not mine, but a new one in the original set.

I was trying to help the guy that made them sell this set on Ebay. The Joker guitar actually has a button that when you push it, Joker laughs maniacally… cool, huh?? I’d love to have this set, but the price tag is $4,000… There are guitar straps for each with a Batsignal on it. I think Joker guitar should have a Joker strap, but anyway…
Also, I thought guitars were supposed to be more desirable if they’re used because they’ve been broken in? I’m no expert, but I’ve heard all that blood and sweat that’s worked into the fretboard makes the instrument sound sweeter.
I understand how you feel though, I wanted a new one when I saw this Bat-guitar, just so it would be all mine right from the start.
But to get a new one, I would have had to buy the set above. And since I can’t even play, that seemed a little extreme.
Mine’s used and has some nicks on the body.

(I hope this is not a double post, the computer said my message was sent and it and was sending me back, but my message was not posted… I’ve always wondered how that double posting happens!)
