Actually, the image looks fine that way IMO. Really stands out. Anyways, the reason that’s happening is because the shade of white surrounding the person is slightly different than the shade of white you designated as the transparent color. So, what you need to do is open the gif in an image editor and manually change the white outline to match the transparent color.
It’s barely visible, but if you MUST, I’d use Paint or some other graphics software, and manually paint the offending pixels in the background color (which is transparent).
Actually, what you are experiencing is an unavoidable fact of transparent gifs. When changing colors it looks better if they sort of blend together; this is called anti aliasing. This removes the sharp transition of a color to another and replaces it with various pixels that are mostly one color, but a little of the second. In your case, the background of your gif started off white. The pixels on the edge blended toward white, but when you made the gif the pure white became clear, and was replaced by something that contrasts with the almost white transition pixels. What you want to do, is when making a picture to use as a transparency use a background color exactly the same as the one in your site (in the case of patterns, you have improvise).
In this case, it might be easier to just snip the offending pixels off with an image editor. If you have access to Photoshop, it would be the easiest by far. Just select the transparent layer, and expand your selection by a couple of pixels (I am guessing 2 or 3 should do it), then delete them and Mr. Chenoweth’s shirt will flow right into the background.
how do i expand the transparent layer?
i did the matching background, on what you saw and still got the white line.
got rid of most of the white line using the eraser tool in photoshop, very time consuming.
tried to increase the background and then the second time the image using “modify” and it seemed to make the white line even bigger. what am i doing wrong?
would like to find a quick fix to the white line problem because i use transpariencies all the time.
