This is pretty much what the thread title says. Do any of you wink at guys shortly after you meet them? What message are you trying to send? I’ve noticed this happening a lot to me lately and I always used to think that it was flirting. Now, I’m thinking it may just be a bit of harmless fun on their part. So, I thought I’d see what you have to say…
Depends…it could be both. If I am joking with someone from work I could wink and it probablyu means nothing other than Iam poking fun at something. If I am teasing someone I might wink at another person who is there to signal them to play along. If I am flirting I might add a little wink as punctuation. If there is lots of pollen, it might mean I have hay fever.
It means “do not take what I am saying competely seriously.” It is meant as flirting only if the statement that it accompanied was possibly salacious or if it is done across a dance floor. Otherwise, it connotes that you are close enough to be in on the joke, but need not mean anything romantic or sexual.
If in doubt, play along for the moment, then when an opportunity arises, ask.
If I wink at a guy I’m flirting at it usually means that talking isn’t the first thing on my mind Man…I just realized how bad that really sounds. Lol.
Okay, honestly, a wink is usually added to be flirty and cute. It’s like telling someone that they’re hot without actually having to flat-out say it (and a wink can’t get shot down, so it’s safer).

I worked with a guy, however, that winked every single time I spoke with him. Yes, he was an annoying asshole, but my point is that it could be just a habit.
I worked with a woman like that and she was obnoxious. She winked at everyone usually winking about three times within any one sentance. I actually thought it was a tic of some sort but I don’t think it was because she did this while staring at my boobs…or the nearest guy’s crotch…she was versatile but kind of disturbed.
Thanks for the responses. I hadn’t thought about the joke winks since those are usually pretty self explanatory :-). I guess I’ll be a little more specific about context. In once case it was a flight instructor that I was talking with to do a flight review. We had just finished a class and I noticed that she was looking my way pretty often. After the class we talked a bit and after I scheduled a time to go up for a flight with her I got the wink. I think jamesinwonderland hit it with being “flirty and cute” in this case. The second that struck me is a girl that I have only spoken to about 4 times. I belong to a group that consists of mostly single people and she has started to come to our meetings. I’ve been leading for the last couple of meetings and I notice there are times when I look her direction and she smiles and winks. I found out that she is going through a divorce and doesn’t seem real talkative when I approach her. So, I’m a little confused on what that one means…
Flirting can be harmless fun!
I don’t wink well so I rarely try to…
Wink means she wants your mangina. Go for it.
A wink’s as good as a nod to a blind bat. Do you happen to be a blind bat?
