Gitmo stats

What is the best source for impartial information on who has been detained at Guantanamo Bay and why?

I’d like to know how many could truly be considered terrorists or enemy combatants, how many were turned in by rival militias, how many have been released and so forth.

Thanks for any suggestions!

The number of detainees who can “truly be considered terrorists or enemy combatants” is a matter of opinion, so I’m not sure what impartial source there might be.

In 2006, the Department of Defense released a list of the roughly 750 detainees, including those who had already been released. Wikipedia has an annotated list, which includes links to some human rights groups who offer their interpretations. The government has been very reluctant to release information (such as how they were captured or what the evidence against them is), so we’re left with just one side of the story.

Thanks.

I’ve also found some analysis by a Seton Hall law professor. http://law.shu.edu/publications/guantanamoReports/fourteen_myths_of_gtmo_final.pdf

I wonder if there are any other independent analyses of the DoD information.
