Give Live Love: The New Coke Logo

So on my recent purchase of 2 liter Diet Coke bottle, and on the other Coke bottles, there are the words:

Give
Live
Love

I have no idea what the hell that is supposed to mean, nor do I have any idea what it has to do with Coke.

I assume somebody at an ad agency earned some big bucks for it. Now if only someone will explain what it means and the relevance.

Obviously, it is an entreaty against corpse-sex.

You owe me a new keyboard Mister! Day-ummm funny!

That’s what I was thinking. Coca Cola is publicly denouncing necrophilia. Good for them.

Give, live, and love. What the hell’s the confusion? They’re all good things, things that Coke wants you to associate with them. They’re especially appropriate during the holiday season. Coke’s ad strategy has consistently been to present their product as just being a part of a good life in general. “Give Live Love” fits well into that trend.

Once I ran to you (I ran)
Now I’ll run from you
This zombie love you’ve given
I give you all a boy could give you
Take my ears and that’s not nearly all
Oh…zombie love
Zombie love

Might there be a commercial series to accompany this new logo? One with consumer testimonials?

“My girlfriend said I was a dead fuck. Then I tried Diet Pepsi[sup]tm[/sup], and now she has to peel herself off the ceiling on a nightly basis! Thank you, Diet Pepsi!”

I’m not quite sure what it is with faintly eyebrow-raising Coke advertisements, but I remember one in India which had an actress holding a bottle to her lips in a highly suggestive manner - she wasn’t drinking from the bottle, you understand, merely pressing it against her lips - with her other hand on her out-thrust hup, and the slogan “Big Coke, Big Fun.”

As they say on Teh Intarweb, wtf?

I do beg your pardon; I had searched for it before without success, and it seems I remembered the slogan wrong. The correct version is: “Big Fun With The Big Coke.”

Hey, I’d buy that for a dollar…

Sounds like, once again, an ad agency had an existing idea and shoehorned a client’s product into it.

It’s also a…I forget what you call it, when you take a word, and then change a letter to get another word, and so on. And they probably figured that:

Give
Live
Love

sounded better as a slogan than

Both
Moth
Math

Notice how they change only one letter in each work as you go along?

G I V E
L I V E
L O V E

It’s a cute little word string to show how Giving relates to Love and makes the world a better place.

Drink your Coke, son.

I parsed that phrase incorrectly when I first read it. Rather than “Give Live (as in Live long and prosper) Love” I read it as “Give Live (as in LiveAid) Love”.

I thought it was a call for live-action pr0n performances…

LOKE
COKE

Nah.

They do holiday packaging every year. These words fit well into the season to me.

I once saw a “give live love” show in Tiajuana. Eh, it was so-so.

They probably market tested a bunch of random words and found three that got the most positive responses. They think if they put them on the cans that people will subconsciously be more inclined to choose them over other brands. Marketing is unbelievable cynical. It’s almost as bad a politics.

GIVE - LIVE - LOVE - COVE - COKE works. Though COVE is not really a sexy marketing word.

I guess they avoided RAPE - ROPE - COPE - COKE for similar reasons.
