Give Me an Age Range for Cathy

I need some help with the math folks.

The comic strip charachter Cathy

  1. She has had TWO class reunions. (But we don’t know if they were 10th and 20th or 10th and 15th or what number they were just they were 2)
  2. Her Mother has had her 50th Reunion
  3. Her mother says when Cathy was in High School she was already Cathy’s age.

Obviously comic charachters don’t age in real time and there are inconsistencies but based on the above can we get an age range that Cathy must be. Or can we say using the above information it can’t be so.

I’d guess she’s between 35 - 45.

Assuming one graduates high school at 18:

  1. At her 10th she’d have been about 28, at her 15th she’d be 33 and at her 20th 38.
  2. Her mother must be at least 68, therefore
  3. mom was 48 20 years ago

So, unless Cathy has had her 30th reunion, it doesn’t seem to work. I always figured she was in her mid to late 30s, if that helps.

It could be the 5th and 10th reunions. In that case, she’d be 28 and her mom would be at least 56. If her mom meant that she was older than Cathy is now when Cathy was in high school, then her mom could be 68, but that would make Cathy a very late baby. That’s the only consistent scenario.

Except that according to the OP, Cathy’s mom has had her 50th reunion.

Cathy is about 43, and her mother is at least 68; I’m assuming high school graduation is at 18. When Cathy was 18 (25 years ago), her mother was 43; Cathy was born when her mother was 25, – reasonable, though a bit late for the times. Cathy has been to her 10th and 20th high school reunions (at 28 and 38 years old).

Of ocurse, if anyone thinks Cathy Guisewhite has the wit to have planned all this out, it’s a considerable overestimate. Cathy was originally young and single, and her mother was sort of old. Now Cathy is middle aged and her mother is really old. There were some abrupt jumps from carefree girl to working woman to … well, whatever in hell Cathy is supposed to be now.

Check what I wrote again. It’s possible, although I’m leaning towards Nametag’s analysis.

Love the sig, Nametag.

I’ll move this thread to Cafe Society.

Namtag’s analysis appears to be on target, although it may be that Cathy is a bit younger than 43. I’d venture to say that she appears to be somewhere between 38 and 43.

I recall that when Cathy attended one of her class reunions–I believe it was in the early 90s–it occured to me that she and I must be precisely the same age. Now I’m 47 and she seems to be younger.

This has happened before. IIRC, Homer Simpson took Marge Bouvier to the Senior Prom in 1974, the year I attended the Senior Prom. Now they seem to be younger than me, and have kids who are still 8, 7, and less than 1. In the same way, on the series Roseanne, Laurie Metcalf’s character was the same age as me, and then got younger.

What’s their secret?

Simple. Some people have good genes, others have good writing.

Wait, that’s a woman?

Oh those endless menopause jokes are hilarious!

Aren’t all women “29”?

[hijack] Their secret is Matt Groening officially admitting that the Simpsons characters never age (anymore). Yes, its official. They have had jokes about this on the show, like Bart’s chalkboard “I should not be 21 by now.” (BTW the Simspons kids are 10, 8, and 1) Notice that in the recent episode with Lisa’s birthday she remained 8 years old.[/hijack]

Yes, and men get more attractive as they age.

pfft

BWAH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAH!

Damn, that was good.
