I don’t think you should use a show that isn’t a universal reference, like lifestyles of the rich and famous used to be. If you use some obscure show on some obscure cable network it’ll sound like some weird forced (or paid!) pop culture reference.
Maybe a game show like “It’s Worth What?” would work for this purpose. Contestants earn money by guessing the value of ridiculously expensive items.
Definitely Cribs. Although I’m in my 20s and remember Lifestyles, so depending on your target audience, it might still work.
“True Hollywood Story” might fit your purposes then. It’s on the E! network.
