Give me good droid apps.

Ok , so I finally broke down and upgraded to the shiny new world. Since it is simply no longer possible to get a phone that is simply a device to make calls, when mine finally gave up the ghost I went whole hog and got a droid, the backflip specifically, the only one ATT supports.

I have been commercials for a year about all the cool new apps that will save my life and get me spiritual fulfillment and endless sex and all sorts of other wonderful things

So what are the good ones, not even just games tools too? Huh? Huh? Huh? I am sitting here with a practically naked un-apped out backflip.

Trial version of GPS tracker of phone location that reports back to you called Anti-DT is interesting

PDA-Net is the absolute bomb -Free app to use our phone as a wireless net modem for your notebook - trial is free

Below are all free

Free Snaptic compass is exellent

Google earth rocks

Metal detector is fun but limited

Wifi analyzer is suprisingly useful

Live water wallpaper is pretty

Putting the power control bar on your slide over screen is useful.

Droid Fashlights (there are dozens all free)

I think it’s fair game to urge this thread on. I just bought a Droid last night (rather than letting them replace my LG Voyager, which has broken twice), and I was going to start my own thread when I saw this one.

C’mon, people – tell us about the killer apps! My droid needs fed!

I’ve got Flikster, which tells me which movies are around, and I like it.

I also have Where and Sherpa, the two apps that tell you what’s around for food, entertainment, shopping, or gas at your current location. Of these, I think I like Sherpa better. I haven’t used either much; around Minneapolis, I pretty much know what’s available where I’m going. Sherpa was fun in Hawaii, though - I like its rotating UI better than Where’s. That said, Where looks like it has more information.

I’ve downloaded two calorie/diet tracking apps, but haven’t used either yet, so I can’t comment.

For games, I’ve got Jewels (which is fun, but I think I might be getting bored with it) and the Abduction! demo (which is made of awesome). I also have a Bubble Burst Free game, which I need to get rid of.

I replaced the built-in mail client on my MyTouch 3g with the K-9 mail app, and it’s great. Plus, the icon is K9 from Dr. Who, which I think is beyond cool.

I did download TasKiller, but I haven’t needed to use it yet, so nothing to report there.

I also downloaded the Weather Channel app - it seems OK, but there’s probably better ones out there. Where also has a weather button; I should check that out.

Other than that, the phone came with a YouTube app, a music app, a GMail app, and some other apps that I don’t use much. I guess I’m just not one of those that uses my phone for a ton of stuff, hey?

A couple highlights from my collection:

Redbox Codes - free DVDs, yay! One movie per code per credit card, which lasts a good long while…and should you happen to lose a card near the end of the cycle and have a newly-numbered card issued, well, lucky you.

LogMeIn Ignition - remotely access your PC(s) using your Droid. Calling it a tad clunky to use would be an understatement, but it’s better than nothing. Beta is free but time-limited.

Where’s My Droid - allows you to set up a passphrase that rings your phone when you receive it in a text message. Notable for working even if your phone is on low volume or vibrate (there’s an option to restore these settings once you find the phone). This plus SMS Everywhere has saved me much frustrating searching.

Tricorder - turns your phone into a tricorder replica, with (working!) features such as accelerometers, magnetic field analysis, solar activity reports, and other things you’ll only care about if you’re a big enough geek to think it’s cool to have an app called “tricorder” on your phone.

Steamy Window - Exactly what it says on the tin. Utterly useless, but you need it nonetheless.

Advanced Task Killer for me has been a godsend. If there is one Achilles Heel of the Droid it’s the battery life and this helps immensely.

Aloqa: Free local happenings. I haven’t had much of a chance to use this, since I’m not much of a traveller, but the one time I was in a foreign city I used it to find a Texas Roadhouse and it worked like a charm.

Power Manager: There is a free and a paid one, I grabbed the free. Basically it reads your battery and changes the power settings accordingly. Your screen will dim quicker, no wifi search, etc.

Sports Tap: Sports scores. Free and awesome.

NFL Mobile: This is awesome because you click and watch Live streaming NFL Nework. A must for football fans.

City Caller ID: As the name says, when you get a call it will display the city that the area code is registered in. Pretty useful if you get a lot of out of town calls…if not…fun parlor trick. Either way it’s free so who cares?

Other apps that are pretty self explanitory:

Lightsaber
Book reader
Bubble level
Compass
