Give me some songs about London

I prefer “The Worst Pies in London.” You can also include “The Lambeth Walk” from Me and My Girl.

You know, if you include all of these songs, you’ll need about ten CDs. And when the flight lands, she’ll probably want to get back on the plane and go back home.

Lots of good stuff here… just adding “Emit Remmus”, Red Hot Chili Peppers.

One of my favorites… “London Rain” by Heather Nova.

“London, Luck, and Love” by Hall and Oates
“Sights and Sounds of London Town” by Richard Thompson

More Dire Straits:

‘Wild West End’
‘Lions’

I can’t believe anyone hasn’t mentioned ‘London Town’ by Bucks Fizz! All about a social misfit (as the protaganist refers to themselves in the lyrics) who gets beaten up (or something) but still wants to stay because they are a social misfit etc.

I think it was Bucks Fizz’s attempt to do biting social commentary. I downloaded it off of kazaa. I think hte nicest thing you can say of it is that it is ‘very much of its time’ ahem…I like it though!

Hmm… Narrad, I’m impressed. What a (relatively) obscure song to doublepost on.

I came in just to mention London Still, too, but was well and truly beaten to the punch.

Um, what else then… how about Storm the Palace by Catatonia?

Not so obscure lately, it seems. Triple J is spinning “London Still” heavily, plus the Waifs are touring at the moment (they were in Perth two weeks ago – I missed the show, but I’ll catch 'em at Big Day Out. :))

You know, I’d like to meet his tailor.

“London Girls” the Vibrators.

“Satellite” the Sex Pistols “you know I don’t like where you come from. It’s just a satellite of London.”

“Last Gang in Town” the Clash

“Cheapskates” the Clash “I don’t like to hang around in this lonely road, cause London is for going out and trying to hear a tune”

Also “Capitol Radio” and “Guns of Brixton” by the Clash.

“Kiss Me Deadly” Generation X

“Just A City” by Voice of the Beehive
“Route To Love” by the Band of Holy Joy

‘Duplex Ride’ - Sidsel Endresen & Bugge Wesseltoft.

The lyric consists of a spoken list of London Underground tube station names. Darned fine track, too.

“London” by Queensryche

I just recently went to an Austin City Limits taping, so I’ll have to contribute my personal favorite, London Homesick Blues

When you’re down on you luck
and ya ain’t got a buck
In London, you’re a goner…

Hey London by Unrest…although I get the feeling that it is actually about a girl named London, not the city. But I have also thought that it might all be some weird metaphor.

Also, I really like the lyrics to London Song on the new Breeders album. “Mercy here gets meaner overnight…”

Yeah, I’m one of the bandwagon-jumpers (I thought I was really good having found this great new song until my mother told me that she liked it), but I meant in an international context. Then again, they’ve just come back from the states, right? Surely it’s only a matter of time til they win over the Americans!

“London Song” - Ray Davies.
