Got news for ya - there’s a lot more women, and whites, than there are blacks in this electorate, and they’re more likely to show up, too. As long as we’re being blunt here. “The Dem powerbrokers” know it too.
And is he embracing or dismissing his race as an appropriate consideration these days? Not that it matters what he says about it; voters will either embrace or dismiss it themselves.
Thanks you for speaking to a question I asked directly of the OP, who mentioned this in his opening argument and hasn’t been around much (in this thread since).
This is quite an accurate statement regarding the media and the fact that blacks have come around (at least in terms of being able to support him at all, bias or not) is telling.
It has been the media all along who have bee hyping his “choice” as an issue in the first place. How could his speaking to race as a considertiion in that way in politics work, except for the times he’s been forced to? As I admonished an angry young black man who railed on about the fact that race has not been the first, second, third and last plank in his platform – Are you kidding, you not only don’t want him to be elected, you wanted him to be dismissed completely right out of the gate.
When was the last time “all of the MSM” was on the side of one candidate? When was the last time a Democratic candidate faced “no questions about his liberallness”?
If Hillary gets the nomination, especially if she does so while still losing in delegates and votes, a lot of black voters may be willing to vote Republican this time around.
Condi Rice has been campaigning for the VP slot, according to some reports. She’s already 4th in line as it is, so it’s not that radical of a jump.
So McCain waits for the Dems to finish their bloodbath, and if Hil’s the nom, he picks Rice as the VP. The Dems may not be able to win w/o the black vote.
Maybe the growing Latino vote will make up the difference. We could see a realignment of the old political coalitions, with black voters joining the Pubbies on their anti immigration plank, and the Latinos, Asians, and working class whites joining a renewed Democratic party, freshly purged of black folks. A lot of these folks seem more comfortable supporting a liberal agenda if it’s a white person selling it.
All this speculation is really silly. Barring an absolute catastrophe, like Obama being caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy, he will be the Democratic nominee. And he will then trounce Grandpa McCain (R - Depends) in the general election.
Somebody, she herself, the Pubbie machine, somebody - has been pushing the idea that she’s crazy about football players. That she’s straight, and has a thing for black ballplayers.
Total Pubby propaganda? Possibly. But I’ve know a number of lesbians over the years who also occasionally dated men. As a matter of fact, I’ve know women who had steady girlfriends at home, women they considered their life partners. They also sometimes dated men - with their life partner’s permission.
Weird, I know. But if Condi says she loves men, and sometimes sleeps with them, is she lying? Does she really count as a lesbian?
I’m tempted to call this logic Clintonian, but that might not be fair, so I’ll go with “silly.” Obama’s winning and most likely to win outright, but his best chance is to quit and gamble again in four or eight years? Come on.
There’s no actual proof Charlie Crist is gay, but everybody knows it. His recent dating of a model, at a time when his name has been floated for the VP slot, has been generally taken to confirm rather than refute the rumors.
As for Rice – she’s a highly intelligent and reasonably attractive woman, and moreover rich and famous, who has never in all her life been linked romantically with any man. Do the math.
I don’t think you could sound any more condescending if you tried. Black folks are not a herd of mindless welfare queens and kings who are easily swayed by people “telling them” shit. I know this may be hard to believe or comprehend, but a lot of black people actually, you know, have functional gray matter that they use on a daily basis so that they can think for themselves. A lot of them also aren’t looking for government handouts all the time. I know, I know. you with the face is talking that crazy talk again. She’s black, but what does she know?
I’m still trying to figure out what makes you think Obama is so extra liberal. Did you ever answer that?
I’m entirely confused. The OP seems to refer to black voters as being fed all sorts of ideas by various groups which they of course are wolfing down, fully under their power.
And then on the other hand the Dem powerbrokers must do what they want, or risk a revolt.
There looks like something of a disconnect here.
I’d also point out that if the one problem stopping him from being voting in, the single difficulty he will face, is that people will discover that Obama is actually a lightning, thunderliberal, then surely it’s pretty much in his best interests to run now, rather than in eight years? I mean, if he keeps going now, the chance that it will be “revealed” is surely much less than the chance it would be with eight years gone plus another Presidential race on top of that. “People must not find out this secret about me - i’d better put myself in a position where that will be tested every day for eight years. Yes, that’s the best approach.”
On the contrary, if it is indeed a foul secret that he must keep hidden, it would seem rather more in the interests of those who would prefer a different candidate for him to drop out now. So… nice try?
