He probably will get the nomination… the Dem powerbrokers don’t want to piss off the black vote.
And he could win the general… but I doubt it.
If he doesn’t win, it will be because he is revealed to be the liberal that he is rather than a moderate that he needs to be to win the election. If he doesn’t win he will never get another chance because he won’t be able to put the liberal genie back in the bottle.
Plus he will have made permanent enemies out of the Clintons and much of their machine.
What he needs to do is give the nomination to Hillary in exchange for VP. If they lose, he has it locked up in four years and will be able to run a campaign with all of the MSM on his side and no questions about his liberallness.
If they win, he’s in the an even better position eight years from now.
What makes you think the Dem powerbrokers care enough about the total number of black folks, of which Democrat voters total less that 15% of electorate, to placate them by handing over the nomination only to guarantee losing in the general election (under your described scenario)?
Please. If the words of other Democrat politicians are anything to go by, the Clintons are squandering much of their political power over this campaign. If they really are to be so feared that making enemies of them is political suicide, Hillary will be able to convince the delegates at Denver to give her the nom anyway. If she can’t, then she pretty clearly doesn’t have the kind of leverage you imply she does.
yeah, like being vice-president to a Clinton was such a good career move for Al Gore…
but seriously, why do people keep saying that Obama being Vice-President positions him well to be elected President? Since the passage of the Twelfth Amendment in 1804, there have been precisely two sitting Vice-Presidents elected straight to the Presidency: Van Buren in 1836, and Bush Sr. in 1988.
Nixon, Humphries and Gore could tell you what an electoral advantage the Veep-ship is at election-time.
Can you give an example of one of his scary liberal stances that will prevent him from being elected and explain why it will keep him from being elected?
Republicans don’t exactly have their finger on the American pulse these days, either. They got trounced two years ago, their guy is the least admired President in history, and this election was going to be about one thing and one thing only - immigration. I’m not too concerned with what Republicans think.
