Given a choice in killing yourself occupationally.

Which would you choose, long term overexposure to chemicals (carcinogens, stuff that cause neurological & motor impairment, birth defects etc… )or long term overexposure to radiation?

And why?

I’m trying to pick a career path here.

Hobson’s choice.

I suggest exploring the alternatives, such as heavy earth-moving machinery. Or long-haul truck driving.

How about running yourself to death powering our boards?

Short summary of the sh*tuation.

Currently I’m an upholsterer, and even though I take all the precautions I can…

am getting exposed to lots of really nasty chemicals; solvents and glues mostly.
Which is why after 2 weeks off, after only 2 days back, I feel rotten.
I could pull out the MSDS’ tomorrow and get the specifics, but I don’t want to read them again, guess why.
My training is as an aircraft mechanic, so if I do that, not only do I get the solvents and glues, but zinc-chromate (primer) and lots of aluminum (always great for your brain).

So, I said one day “hampster’s had enough of this.” And decided to go back to school and retake my Grade 13s so I could get into a decent program at a university. I get paid a pittance, so it’ll be no loss finding a nice safe job, nights at a convenience store perhaps.

Given where I’m headed, electrical engineering probably (too much Umlaut House ); knowing my luck I’ll end up just like the Curies (Marie & Pierre).

And thanks Forbin, I do find the whole aspect of Hobson’s Choice, or antinomy fascinating. What people do. Personally I’d go with radiation just because getting exposed to radiation is probably going to involve more interesting circumstances than the wage-slave grunt work that gets most people breathing fumes etc…

thanks for reminding me exactly why I stopped posting here in the first place.

Because you couldn’t spell your name right?
