New Directions faces off against the Warblers at Regionals, a competition which seems to be held earlier every year.
This episode was promoted as the “Winter Finale”, which puzzled me since I thought they already had a Winter Finale (the Christmas episode), but it turns out they’re taking another break and there won’t be another new episode until April 10.
I was expecting this episode to be bad, largely because Rachel was shown in her wedding gown in the teaser and I was already sick of the whole Rachel/Finn wedding plot as soon as it was introduced. But the Karofsky storyline, while predictable, was done well enough that I was willing to forgive a lot…until it became obvious that they were setting up a cliffhanger where Quinn gets hit by a truck.
I’m not yet ready to commit to never watching this show again, but for me I think this was the moment Glee finally jumped the shark. It’s been in decline for quite a while – some would say since immediately after the pilot – but I no longer believe there’s even any hope of turning things around.
As soon as I saw Quinn texting, I knew how this episode would end.
The whole situation ended quickly but wouldn’t the nude (even if photoshopped)pictures of Finn be child porn? oh wait he and Rachel must be 18 or they would have to get permission to marry. Nevermind. That was a stupid plot point anyway.
I thought Sebastian’s sudden change of heart was stupid too – I don’t believe an acquaintance attempting suicide would make much different to a sociopath like him – but if that’s what it takes to end his storyline so we never have to see him again then fine.
I was disappointed when he said “It’s all fun and games, until it’s not” instead of “It’s all fun and games, until someone loses an eye. Whoops, sorry, Blaine.”
This was my first ‘loved it’ of the season, notwithstanding Sebastian’s ‘yeah, right’ de-assholification and the clumsy telegraphing of Quinn + pickup. Cute bit: while envisioning his ideal future, Dave gives himself a bald spot.
Now that I’m past yelling at the TV (and the writers)…
I thought the bullying storyline was as well done as we could ask. It was well-balanced, and tolerably realistic. It danced on the edge of “Afterschool Special” without falling over, and the only part that gave me pause was the whiplash change of Sebastian. However, the writers have caused a LOT of whiplash this season, so I didn’t find it egregious.
On the other hand, while I agree that the Quinn ending was telegraphed, there was part of my brain that didn’t want to believe that the writers would shove another “meaningful” storyline into an already packed episode. Therefore, I sat stunned for about a minute, then began cussing out the TV, the writers, the creators, etc. Not necessary, really not necessary.
Oh, boy, my daughter is already ticked enough thinking she has to wait a week to find out what happens to Quinn. I cannot wait to hear how she reacts when I tell her it’ll be APRIL.
So who thinks that
Quinn won’t die in the crash, but be paralyzed instead? This seems to me to be the setup, her having just received the Cheerios uniform AND having gone on about not seeing how someone would ever be in such despair that they’d commit suicide.
The thing that made us (well my husband, since I tend to completely ignore lyrics) sit up and go ??? was, “Is Blaine singing about COUGH SYRUP?!!!” Very nice song, but cough syrup? Can anyone explain that?
