Global Entry in US vs E-gates in Europe?

Which system is better? Will US airports ever have automated border control where you just scan your passport, it takes a picture and lets you in? (Doing background checks, comparing biometric data, and with an officer monitoring of course.)

I think it is actually safer than a human doing the checks because humans can not spot the miniscule differences that a computer can. And plus its faster. Some of the border guards IMHO can be rude and no one wants that. I just want to land from a long flight and exit.

Global Entry requires you to still go through a customs officer which is not like the European one which I prefer.

What do you think?

GlowingDarkness, you already have a thread based on this link started in Great Debates. I’m closing this one.
