Global Warming Article, polar ice caps....

I remember a couple years ago, a very prominet newspaper printed a story on the front page about the polar ice caps melting for the first time in a century or some alarming news like that. But then a couple days later, they put in another article taht apologized and stated taht this happens every single summer; this article was found not on the front page…

Does anybody have any idea what I am talking about? I need it for a cite in school, any help would be very much appreciated.

By coincidence I was just thinking about this today, my memory spurred by reading a book about an Arctic expedition circa 1914.

A few weeks ago, the New York Times had an article that mentioned that for the first time in perhaps the last 50 million years, there was no ice at the North Pole.

However, evidence exists that open water at the North Pole is not all of that unusual and that this is certainly not the first time in 50 million year that it has happened. In fact, The New York Times retracted the statement about the 50 million years ten days after the initial article appeared.

The article goes on to say that although open water at the pole per se is not necessarily indicative of anything unusual, the amount of sea ice in the Arctic is indeed declining decade-by-decade.
