Global warming is here to stay
So no matter what we do, it’s going to get hotter ‘for centuries’ according to this report. There will be places that become uncomfortably hot (SoCal has always been too hot for my liking), and places that will suffer more severe storms. So where will be the most comfortable places to live in a hundred years’ time?
I’m guessing places that are currently too cold, like Iceland, Greenland and Scandinavia. I hear Iceland has some great restaurants now and a pretty funky club scene.
Eh, live in the mountains.
And they thought my plan for the urbanisation of Greenland was a pipe dream! Ha! I’ll show them!
If one of the effects of global warming is to turn off the Gulf Stream, Northwest Europe may actually get colder. But don’t go to Holland, as it will probably be underwater by then.
A houseboat.
Perhaps spme Dopers could pool their money and buy a surplus aircraft carrier. Lots of room for volleyball.
Not for a while, though. Wait 'til the ecology there adapts to the new temperature- for example, look at the melting permafrost problem in Alaska.
In a hundred years, moving about 1 mile inland ought to give you the same climate you have now.
Moving a mile inland from my present location gives me the same climate now. Why should it only change a mile inland as it warms?
Depends on where you live. If you live in Florida, this is not true. A large portion of Florida could be lost and the increase in Hurricanes and Hurricane strength could mean that Florida will not be anywhere close to a safe place to live.
Much could be said for most of the Gulf Coast and South Atlantic States.
Don’t run but work towards reducing green house gases. Vote for candidates that make this a high priority. Get involved at a local level and do what you can at home.
