Glycocyamine Dangers?

Long time lurker, first time poster so please be gentle. Where else can you find scientists and weight lifters in the same place?

It seems like everyone at my gym is raving about Muscle Milk but it contains glycocyamine which is giving me pause. I was trying to do my own reading on it, but I can’t seem to find any clear answers. It appears that it raises levels of homocysteine, but complementing that with betaine lowers it. How dangerous are raised levels of homocysteine? I’ve read that they are a sign of heart disease but is that causation or correlation? At the same time, I’ve read papers from pubmed in patients with coronary heart disease that improved their functioning with the betaine/glycocyamine combination. The purported neurotoxic effects aren’t making me too happy either. Is this going to kill me or is this all overhyped? I’d really like not to die, so if anyone has any recommendations for post-workout protein that won’t kill me that would be great too!

Glycocyamine is metabolized into creatine in the liver by the enzyme guanidinoacetate N-methyltransferase (cite ). That is all I have found.
