Gmail hack?

Gmail hack? Need help fast. Just now, 95% of my Gmail inbox disappeared. Google help said they can’t recover deleted items. anybody else have this problem?

Do you use Gmail on the web? Or do you have a standalone mail client (like Thunderbird)? If you use a standalone client, it may have deleted the emails after they were downloaded.

You can check Trash and see if they are there. Also check the Promotions, Social, and Sent folders to see if somehow all the mail got moved somewhere else.

You should still contact Google. They should be able to tell you how the emails were moved out of your Inbox even if they can’t recover them.

thanks for prompt response. gmail on my desktop. Is Google good about responding? Microsoft never does.

I have never, ever been able to contact Google for tech support of any kind. And I am good at finding that stuff. Google just will not do it.

Maybe, if you have something like a Pixel phone, you can access support. Mostly not though.

Google provides services to hundreds of millions of people. They simply cannot do tech support.

Best you can usually do is a Google search or ask on an appropriate subReddit.

Not sure what that means.

Are you accessing email via a browser or via an email client? Makes a difference.

As a quick test I would recommend trying to log in to Gmail via a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Explorer, Brave, Safari, etc.) All of those are free to download and use.

sorry I wasn’t exact–I’m using Chrome browser, but what’s weird is that only 4 inbox emails remained from June, every one else gone

Did you check your deleted items folder?

And again, download a different browser and login and see if anything is different.

Also, scan your computer for malware/viruses.Kinda thinking it is that or you goofed and deleted your inbox.

Perhaps you enabled filtering?

My Gmail was hacked.

My DIL a skilled investigator couldn’t find what was lost. Google has never responded

Change your Gmail info as soon as possible. Copy what you’ll think you’ll need somewhere else. And call the whole address trash and move on with all new passwords.

Google is worthless for aid in these situations. They care not.

thanks, at least I know I’m not the only one (sorry for your pain!)

Check the IP addresses that have accessed your Gmail. Scroll all the way to the bottom of your inbox and click on “Details” at the bottom right:

If there are any unusual IPs, then it may mean that a hacker is accessing your Gmail. Also, check if there is any forwarding set up. Click on the Gear in the upper right and then on “See All Settings”:

Click on the “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” tab. See if forwarding, POP, or IMAP are enabled.
