Gmail has a sense of humor

Gmail has recently added a feature where “web clips” appear above your inbox. It’s like a little news ticker.

Today I went into my Spam folder… and I noticed the ticker there.

Has anyone else noticed that?

The trash folder’s cute too…

It goes to show how long it’s been since I’ve logged into Gmail: I normally just grab everything via Thunderbird. So, I had to log in just to see what you were talking about. It’s kinda neat.

The ‘web ticker’ thingy seems to be trying to key off of what you’re looking at, as when I opened up my spam folder to see what was there I had a link to ‘Spam Salad’ up on top!

<< Little chance of success, certainty of death, what are we waiting for? >>

Not only did I notice, I tried to remove whatever recipe feed was bringing those in before I realized it only displayed those while you are in your spam folder. :smack:

I’ve had those up there for a while. I also like the ones for the trash folder (there’s one I occasionally see about using leftover aluminum foil to make a nifty hat).

Boo hoo. Not in the U.K., it seems. I just checked. No tin hats and spam salad tips for me. :frowning:
Then again, I would have been :smack: if they had been there for a long time and I had never noticed, I suppose.
:smack:

Same here. And then it still took me a minute to find them (those things really are extremely unobtrusive). Cute stuff.

I like this recycling tip of theirs.

That’s odd, there is nothing like that in my gmail :frowning:

Are you sure it isn’t there and you’re just not missing it? It’s very inconspicuous. Go to you Spam folder, and just above the list of mesages you should see a line saying something about a recipe, or something. If you look just above the date column, you’ll see previous/next buttons.

I mean, it’s possible it’s not there, but I’ll bet you’re just not seeing it. I missed the first few times, and I was actively looking for it.

They’re on my Gmail in the UK…

Hmm I looked pretty closely. Either I’m particularly dense this morning, or it just isn’t there. Here is a screenshot (with my embarrassing spam smudged out  ):

You may have them turned off. If you go to settings, Web Clips, there’s an option to turn them on or off. Mine are currently off.

Correction. Mine, obviously, are currently on.

Even odder, there is no Web Clips option in my settings either!

Maybe i’m stuck on an older Gmail interface, I’ll delete my cookies and see what happens…

Whoa! For no reason at all (I didn’t even get a chance to try the cookie thing) my entire Gmail interface just changed. I now get those web clips, and an actual delete button instead of having to select it from the actions list! Very very strannge. It’s almost as if google was reading this conversation in my inbox, hmmmmmm.

cue Twilight Zone music

Very Orwellian

That’s actually driving me nuts. I keep going to the actions list, trying to delete things, and instead I’m adding stars to all my stupid emails!

I’m glad it’s changed, because this makes more sense… but I’m going crazy trying to adjust.

The Google gods aren’t paying attention to poor little me, then. My Gmail seems to be precisely as Dorjan’s before the divine intervention.

WHY do the gods ignore me?

What EVIL power has me in its grasp?

WHY is the world so bad to ME?

NOW do I sound just about ready for my very own tinfoil hat?
(And if, by chance, my Gmail changes shortly after I hit “submit” here, I’m going to have a hard time deciding whether to be astonished or amused. )

The spam recipes are hilarious. It’s like they’re spoofing themselves, “trying” to find a relevant search result for the word “spam.”

Some of those recipes sound kinda good, too.
