Gmail: where is the link to my contacts list?

Suddenly the link that used to be right near the top on the left side that said “Contacts” is gone. I can manually go to www.google.com/contacts but I want my link! Did it move somewhere and I can’t find it? Did they remove it? Am I blind?

It’s hidden in a dropdown menu. Look for where it says “Mail” on the left towards the top. Click on that and you will see links to both your contacts and your tasks.

Aha! You’re right! Why’d they go and hide it like that? Stupid.

Because it’s “clean.” I swear, Zuckerberg is the new Steve Jobs – everyone wants to copy him. The funny thing is that I go into my contacts list so infrequently that I’ve already forgotten where they hid it at least a couple times now.

I don’t like the icons replacing text, either. I like to see the word “Delete”… I’m not in kindergarten; I don’t need a picture of a trash can to get the idea across to me.

You can hover over it and you still get the words. I think too much text clutters up a page, so generally I’m in favor of eliminating text where it’s not needed. Of course, if the icons aren’t clear and intuitive enough that you can’t really tell what it’s for without hovering anyway, then that might be a problem (though the trash can is certainly the most straightforward of the bunch). And of course there’s the issue that mobile devices have no such thing as a hover.

My version has an open book at BOTTOM left - that’s the Contact List

Welcome to the Straight Dope Message Board, louisfr. The OP, OpalCat, won’t be needing this information any more. She died a few months ago.

Sorry about that.

Aww thanks. And welcome to the SDMB! There are plenty more questions need answering…

Please pardon my poor manners, louisfr, and welcome to the SDMB.

Really, way to bring down a guest… If anything, even a zombie OpalCat thread brings warm feelings. Maybe one should be summoned on principle every so often.

Hi louisfr!
