GMC 2004 Yukon & 2006 Envoy interchangability

I have a 2006 GMC Envoy Denali and if you have seen my posts here it has a serious oil leak, oil pump about to die and the A/C compressor just seized. I really like the truck but at 206K miles, how much money do I want to put into it.

I just saw a 2004 Yukon for sale for $3500 with a 5.3L engine that I assume is similar if not the same as the 5.3L in the Envoy. How interchangable are the two trucks so that I could switch blocks, transmissions, wheels/tires, etc. and that I can frankenstein the two trucks into one with the best parts out of each?

There are better people than me to answer this question but…

I occasionally look for used engines to see if it’s worth buying a used car with a blown engine and installing a junkyard engine (I have yet to find one where it was worth doing).

Car-part.com is a useful reference for easy cuts on determining which engines swap into which vehicles. First, answer the questions in the dialog boxes about your truck. There are long and short wheelbase versions of your truck. I don’t know if they have different engines. The engine compatibility for your truck also depends on the letter in the 8th digit of your VIN. Answer all the questions and it will come up with a list of junkyard engines from various junkyards that should fit.

For what it’s worth, it looks none of the compatible engines for your truck come from the Envoy, which was a mid-size SUV versus your full size truck. I don’t know if the Envoy engine could be adapted (which often requires doing things like swapping the oil pan and other parts from your current truck). People who’ve swapped lots of engines around understand how to do this but that guy is not me. Knowing whether a particular engine even from a full size truck would swap in requires knowing the VIN from that vehicle, the VIN from your vehicle, and having the interchange guide handy to tell you if they swap.

If you want to make the process a little easier, just use car-part to find the engine you need. Good luck.
