So Bill Clinton…BILL CLINTON, for Pete’s sake, has the audacity to infer that Republicans are hypocritical for criticizing Trent Lott for “stating publicly what the GOP does “on the back roads every day.”” What, disenfranchising black voters? I guess we can ask J.C. Watts about that, eh? Obviously he doesn’t think so.

Republicans have had many many sex scandals of their own (COUGH) GEINGRICH (COUGH). Republicans are just mad cause the Democrat ones get the most attention.
An informed opinion will come from reading a text such as ‘The Fiery Cross’ which explains how the KKK came to power, and which political parties were backers at various times. Neither side of the aisle is free of dirt on their shoes. That said, it’s time for minorities to stop whining about oppression. Sufficient opportunities have been extended to minorities such that the current generation of WASPs need not bear the scourge of our great-great grandfathers. You know, I think that Bill Clinton was a VERY good president. I don’t happen to think that his sexual shenanigans have anything to do with his presidency. I think that he was stupid to have given in to the temptation of Monica flicking her thong in his face, because it was, lets face it, stupid. HOWEVER…
I think he governed the country well, and I think we were much better served by Clinton’s policies than we are now. I don’t think Bill Clinton would be “itching” to go to war. I think Bush is. I think THIS president sees some glory in going to war. I don’t think Clinton was that stupid.
I think that the people who were hurt by Clinton’s behaviour were his wife and daughter. I think that he was brilliant in his role as president, albeit not very able to contain his libido. I don’t care. As long as his libido didn’t harm the country, it is NOT my business. Frankly, I don’t CARE what he did with his libido.
I think that I would like an explanation of how his …“lying, criminal butt” hurt the country? By this I mean…he was hauled before a court that was convened to investigate financial shenanigans. They apparently couldn’t FIND anything they could prosecute him for, so they hauled in a person who flung her thong clothed butt in front of him, leading him to kiss it. Or whatever. Okay, now let’s just think about this. HOW does this impact our country? Not AT ALL, as far as I can see.

I don’t think the prosecutors in the investigation into Clinton’s FINANCIAL situation had any business investigating his sexual liasons. They were looking for unlawful things. It appears to me that since they couldn’t FIND any, they tried to justify their salary by finding anything they could to discredit the man they were looking to take down.
I don’t know about you, but I think that none of us lives without wrong. My personal wrong wouldn’t include the kind of wrong that Clinton’s did. But…none of us live without wrong of some kind.

I care about you…I don’t know you, but I love your wife BUNCHES. But you are WRONG here…Trent Lott is a racist. He has apparently, from what I have read, been spreading his racism over the south for years and years…but only to people he felt would agree with him, so he felt “safe.” I don’t think you should defend him, and I don’t think you WOULD defend him if you read further.
Of course, this is just my opinion. But I have unfortunately read some of the RECORDS of the things this man has said over the years. …I would encourage YOU to read a bit further before you defend him. Dave, I have been told by very many people…not just online, but “in the same room” by people who have known me for more years than I care to remember…that I am the least judgmental person they know. And I am telling you, that man is a racist.
IIRC Clinton was fined $25K and his law license suspended for five years for “evasive and deliberately misleading” comments he made on the stand. This is (again, IIRC) not exactly saying he lied under oath, and it was a deal of sorts that he (or his people, I dunno) made with Robert Ray, who was leading the Whitewater investigation.
RobertTB, please do try to be truthful instead of writing deliberately misleading posts. That is, assuming you knew what the truth was. You could well have been in a cave with your fingers in your ears for all I know…
Well, let us just think about this. From my perspective, there are two things.
A) I talked to some attorney friends about this during the proceedings and they agreed that Clinton did NOT lie under oath. Apparently the LEGAL definition of sexual intercourse does NOT include oral gratification. So in a legal sense, Clinton did NOT lie under oath. Admittedly, it was a MORAL lie. But not, apparently, a legal one. Doesn’t mean he did a RIGHT thing…just that it wasn’t a legal definition of intercourse and therefore not illegal. Not that (In my opinion) it is any of our business.
B) From my own personal perspective, I think that it was NONE OF OUR BUSINESS what he did in his personal life. I am here to tell you, if it had been ME, I would have refused to answer if they asked me if I had had sex with Monica Lewinsky. I mean, what possible connection to the presidency did that question have? Nothing, that’s what. (Disclaimer…I have been celibate for more years than I care to remember…just supposing, that’s all… I was told that if you answer ANY questions before the grand jury, you have to answer them ALL or be held in contempt of court, so I expect that is why President Clinton answered the question about Lewinsky at ALL. And I imagine he had all kinds of tricky lawyers who advised him on how to answer it LEGALLY without lying.
But anyway, I don’t know WHY in the SAM HILL did the question even come up? I mean the investigation was into the Clinton’s finances. How could anyone with any credibility possibility extrapolate that into questioning his sex life?
I am still baffled about that.
